Experience an immersive meditative journey inspired by the intricate dance between pollinators and plants. In this unique performance, composer Ricardo Romaneiro weaves together the ethereal tones of the harp, the resonant timbre of the hand pan, the rich harmonies of the cello, the haunting beauty of the human voice, and the transformative power of electronics to create an auditory tapestry that mirrors the symbiotic relationships found in plants and pollinators.

Bring a mat or towel, find a spot on the grass of Cherry Esplanade, lie back, and soak up the multisensory experience. Pop-up bar; no outside food, drink, or chairs permitted. Ages 14 and up.

Information for Attendees

  • Advance tickets required. This is a contemplative event for ages 14 and up.
  • Enter at 990 Washington Avenue. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. The event takes place on Cherry Esplanade and other areas of the Garden are closed. There is no reentry.
  • Please bring a yoga mat or towel of similar size. It is best to experience the soundbath lying down for the entirety of the event. There will be a small section reserved for wheelchairs and people who require a seat.
  • Please observe all Garden rules, including:
    • Do not lean on or hang objects from trees.
    • No outside food or beverages. (Baby bottles and pocket snacks for individuals with dietary restrictions are allowed.)
    • Please properly dispose of your trash and do not pour liquids or ice on the lawn.

About the Artist

Ricardo Romaneiro was born and raised in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and moved to the U.S. at an early age. Ricardo’s music has been featured, performed, and commissioned in an eclectic range of institutions, festivals, and projects around the world and synthesizes his major musical influences and passions: classical and electronic music. The New York Times described his work as “a blissful and compelling mix of Minimalist-derived rhythmic ecstasy and nightclub beats.”

A recipient of the ASCAP Rudy Perez Songwriting Scholarship, Ricardo earned a bachelor’s degree in composition from Manhattan School of Music and a master’s in composition from Juilliard. His music has been featured in the Museum of Modern Art’s Summergarden Series, New Juilliard Ensemble, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Artechouse, Metropolis Ensemble, Wordless Music, Ensemble LPR, Nu Deco Ensemble, ECCE, American Composers Orchestra, Quintet of the Americas, the Alvin Ailey Dance Company, Colorado Ballet at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House, the Sacramento Ballet, and NPR’s live broadcast of Celebrate Brooklyn!

Ricardo has composed sound for National Geographic and Disney, live film scores for silent classics such as Metropolis and The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, and orchestrated, composed, and arranged a live performance for a 100-piece orchestra and choir for Terrence Malick’s film Voyage of Time, for which he performed live electronics. The audiovisual collective and collaboration he cofounded, SUBHAZE, creates immersive concerts, festival installations and concepts with an array of artists, brands, ensembles, orchestras, and venues—offering an audiovisual experience that transcends the traditional forms of presentation.
