Chris Johanson
Wood, metal, wire, acrylic house paint
Herb Garden

Artist Chris Johanson’s birdhouse, a wooden cube suspended in space by wires, isn’t designed for any specific bird—yet it serves as a shelter that only birds can enter. “I hope Untitled creates dialogue,” Johanson says, “about the health of birds, of creatures, and of the planet.”

California-native Chris Johanson (b. 1968, U.S.) engages with the meditative qualities of art-making and sincere direct communication through painting and sculpture. Johanson’s work plays between the techniques of figuration and abstraction, as he sees these two modes of working as interconnected expressions of strong beliefs in environmentalism, compassion, and peaceful coexistence.
